On a hike through a remote section of the Noosa National Park, I came across a small gorge where butterflies were incredibly abundant. With every step, more alighted into the air. The were mesmerising. In my work, I play with positive and negative space. I remove elements to find what point they are recognisable but take on other forms. The paired leaves of the Eucalypt become visually mesmerising like butterflies when the stem and branch elements are removed. This piece is an ode to that colony of butterflies.
